Whenever cancer is suspected the healthcare team will discuss with you the series of tests that will need to be done. This is known as diagnostic testing. Diagnostic testing may vary for each person and are used to:
  • confirm the presence of cancer
  • identify the type and grade of the cancer (how the cells look and behave)
  • find the site where the cancer started (primary tumor)
  • determine the stage of the cancer (how far the cancer has progressed)
  • help plan cancer treatment
